Wat heeft de huidige democratie nodig, hoe kunnen we ervoor zorgen dat iedereen zich gehoord voelt? De centrale vraag voor deze middag waar bestuurders en ambtenaren uit de drie Noordelijke Provincies honger hebben naar informatie, handvaten en inspiratie.
Tijdens de middag komen verschillende vormen om burgers meer invloed te geven aan bod zoals burgerberaden, G1000en en JongerenToppen. De aftrap is aan Jacques Wallage, hij geeft vanuit zijn ervaring een visie op de toekomst van de democratie, hij was raadslid, wethouder en burgemeester in de stad Groningen, Tweede Kamerlid, fractievoorzitter voor de PvdA, staatssecretaris Onderwijs en Sociale Zaken.
Jacques Wallage ziet een duidelijke kloof tussen overheid en burgers en die komt met name door het grote verschil in cultuur, hij noemt het de verticale (overheid) en de horizontale (burgers) lijn. Er zijn een aantal handvaten die lijken te ontbreken: het overstijgende belang voorop, het voeren van een dialoog waarin luisteren centraal staat en we hebben meer bescheiden politici nodig en nieuwsgierige ambtenaren zodat er ruimte komt voor betrokken burgers.
De rode draad van de middag is al snel helder, er is behoefte aan actieve deelname van burgers aan de democratie, de aanwezigen staan daar zeer open voor. Maar hoe doe je dat op de juiste manier, dat wil zeggen hoe doe je dat eerlijk en naar ieders verwachting, dat is en blijft de uitdaging.
Experts op het gebied van G1000’en, Burgerberaden, JongerenToppen en Indaba inspireren en geven inzage in mogelijkheden en oplossingen. Na de korte pitches wordt in kleinere groep per methode doorgepraat en is er vooral ruimte om vragen te stellen.
